Montgomery Bears News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Montgomery Maulers fell to the Beaumont Drillers 55 to 39 on Friday night, as they were unable to get their offense going until the fourth quarter.

The Maulers' four game win streak ended with the loss and their record is now 7-6 for the season, while the Drillers improved to 5-8 with the win and kept their playoff hopes alive.

The defense took a hit in the second quarter as defensive end, Andre Reed, was hurt on a play, ending the game for him. After Reed left the game, John Harrell stepped up for the team by recording eight solo, two assisted tackles and one sack for a loss of four yards.

Quarterback J.R. Richardson completed 15 of 31 passes with two interceptions for 143 yards and five touchdowns. However, the Maulers were unable to get the running game going as they recorded negative five rushing yards.

The receivers played well however, as Shaun Holmes caught six passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Machion Sanders also played well as he had three catches for 33 yards and two touchdowns.

The Maulers were unable to put two and two together however and could not pull out a win. The Maulers will be back next Saturday as they play host to the Lubbock Gunslingers with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CDT.
