Montgomery, AL - The Montgomery Maulers season ended on Saturday night with a 47-31 loss to the Rome Renegades.

The Maulers lost their second round playoff game ending their season at 9-7 while Rome improved to 9-7 and will host the conference championships next weekend against the Cincinnati Marshals.

The offense had some big plays but was unable to capitalize on it to clinch the game. Quarterback J.R. Richardson recorded three touchdowns in 15 completions with 28 attempts and four interceptions for 185 yards. Also on rushing, Richardson had seven carries for 35 yards.

Machion Sanders was the highlight of the night offensively. Sanders had 13 catches for 183 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively the Maulers played well but were unable to come up with big stops. John Harrell had two forced fumbles, one pass defended, two sacks, five solo tackles and six assisted tackles on the night.

Also on the defense, Antoine Hill recorded six solo tackles, one assisted, one interception and one pass deflected.

The Maulers end the season as one of the surprise stories in the National Indoor Football League. Montgomery is one of the best franchise teams the league has seen and hope to improve upon that next season. The Maulers were the first NIFL expansion team to be division champions and were also one of the few expansion teams to make it to the playoffs.
