MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Montgomery Maulers promotion to provide soldiers overseas sounds of home has been declared a success.

People from around the community pitched in and donated 5,535 minutes in calling cards in exchange for a free ticket to the Maulers home game on June 4. The donated calling cards will be sent to the 1158th Transportation Company stationed in Iraq.

"We are very excited about the way members of the community pitched in and helped us do this for the soldiers stationed overseas. The phone card drive was a huge success and we collected more minutes in phone cards than expected," Montgomery Maulers owner Jamie LaMunyon said.

The Maulers will mail the phone cards to the National Guard Unit in the next few days.
