June 17, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release
San Angelo, TX-Scoring for the San Angelo Saints usually happens on the ice, but the franchise scored its own hat trick today with the return of top defenseman Matt Frick to the line-up.
Frick, a 6'0" 190-pound native of West Bloomfield, Michigan, led the Saints defense last season with 28 assists and 32 points. He joined the Saints in 2002 after finishing his four-year collegiate career at Lake Superior State University. In his first season with the Saints, Frick notched 5 goals and 24 assists, and was honored with the team's Best Defensemen award at the end of the season. The 26-year old began his professional career with the Richmond Renegades of the East Coast Hockey League in 2001, and has since made a name for himself in the CHL with the San Angelo Saints.
Saints Head Coach/Assistant GM Ray Edwards has specific goals for the 2004-05 roster and key roles that he wants filled. "We're very happy to have him back," says Edwards. "Matt will play a big role in our power play and do a lot of offensive work on the blue line. He'll be a valuable part of our defense."
"He plays well on his own end," notes Saints Assistant Coach Derek Booth. "He is an offensive defenseman that carries the puck well. He is a great leader and we are glad to have him back."
Frick joins fellow defenseman Konrad Brand, Roan Blampin (LW), Andy Doktorchik (C), Scott Lega (F), Scott Reid (G), and Curtis Tidball (LW) as players signed by San Angelo for the 2004-05 season.
