Match Preview: Sky Blue FC vs Reign FC at Cheney Stadium

Howell, NJ - Sky Blue FC (4-13-4, 16 points) heads to the west coast to face Reign FC (8-5-7, 31 points) at Cheney Stadium on September 21st at 10:00 p.m. ET. This is the third and final meeting of the season between the two teams.

Preview

Sky Blue FC is in eighth place with 16 points (4-13-4), nine points behind the 7th place Houston Dash. Reign FC sits in fifth place with 31 points (8-5-7) and is in a tight race for a playoff spot with the fourth-place Utah Royals FC (9-4-7, 31 points).

As the leading goal scorer for Sky Blue, Carli Lloyd has scored three goals in the last three games, which is as many as she had scored in the previous 15 games combined. In previous matchups this season, Raquel Rodriguez and Elizabeth Eddy have netted one goal each against the Reign. Rodriguez has three goals and two assists and Eddy has one goal and one assist this season.

Opponent

Reign FC is coming into the match off a 2-2 draw against the Washington Spirit in Maryland on Saturday, September 14th. Bethany Balcer and Ifeoma Onumonu scored in the match to help the Reign walk away with a point. The Reign have won just one of their last five games, with two losses and two draws. They have conceded in each of those five games.

Balcer leads the Reign attack with four goals and two assists, followed closely behind by Darian Jenkins with three goals. Megan Rapinoe has returned to the mix after sitting out due to injury. She played her most minutes in an NWSL game since August of last year, playing a full half against the Spirit on September 14th.

Sky Blue FC vs. Reign FC on Rewind

The two teams last played each other at Red Bull Arena on August 18th in a 1-1 draw in front of 9,415 fans. Elizabeth Eddy scored in the 36th minute to put Sky Blue up on the board. The Reign answered back minutes later as Jodie Taylor scored in the 38th minute.

Sky Blue FC's final home game of the season will be on Sunday, September 29th at 11 am ET at Red Bull Arena against Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger, and the Orlando Pride for the Club's Fan Appreciation Day presented by RWJBarnabas Health.
