Match Preview: San Antonio Scorpions vs New York
November 1, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
San Antonio Scorpions News Release
San Antonio takes on the New York Cosmos tonight at 7:30pm at Toyota Field in the season finale for both teams. The Scorpions are already locked into the #2 seed in the playoffs and will host a Championship Semifinal next Saturday, November 8, at 7:30pm at Toyota Field - very likely against these same Cosmos.
But first things first, the Alamo City eleven will have the opportunity to win the NASL's Fall Season with a win over New York and a loss or draw by Minnesota United in their match at the Carolina RailHawks.
The Scorpions have already had a record breaking season and could add a nice piece of hardware to the trophy case, but the real prize awaits in the postseason - a league championship.
San Antonio has set a new team record for total points earned in a year with 49 (previous mark was 47 in 2012) and extended their team record for wins to 15 with last weekend's victory in Minnesota The Scorpions have allowed the fewest goals in the NASL in 2014 (24) and if they concede two or fewer goals against the Cosmos, they will set a team record (currently 27 in 2012)
Multiple Scorpions are in the running for league awards; Alen Marcina- Coach of the Year, Billy Forbes - Young Player of the Year and Rafael Castillo + Walter Restrepo - Golden Ball (MVP).
