Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (7-10-11) is set to face Eastern conference side, Birmingham Legion FC (12-13-3) on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. CST. This will be the first meeting between the sides historically, with H-E-B Park playing host to the important battle.
A weather delay rained all over the Toros chances to continue their determined drive to keep their playoff hopes alive last weekend in Connecticut. The match at Hartford Athletic was halted just under ten minutes into the match and was never re-initiated as the shower of lightning strikes kept the night electric, but not on the pitch, as both sides stayed in the locker room areas awaiting a league decision on the future of the match. After a rather lengthy discussion process, the match was officially rescheduled to a future date, later announced as October 4, which would force Rio Grande Valley to play three straight matches in a 10-day span.
The Toros packed their bags and headed back to their home facilities to recover and rest as their next match was an extra couple of days away. In the time being, Wilmer Cabrera worked his side to precision in training and made some adjustments to his on-field tactics to better align with the dangerous attacking set from Birmingham Legion FC, who pose a serious threat through the wings on any pitch.
Legion FC have won three of their last five contests and are coming off a decisive 1-0 win over Western conference side New Mexico United which boosts the side's confidence entering this battle down South. They too have a chip on their shoulder as they look to qualify as high as possible into the Eastern conference playoff mix, so this Sunday's match should have some fireworks on the field as either side is looking to back down and allow for an easy score.
