Match Preview- City Set to Face Tampa Bay Rowdies in I-4 Derby on Wednesday
April 28, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orlando City SC News Release
Orlando, Fla.- After a successful two-game road trip, Orlando City SC (4-0-2) returns back to the City Beautiful to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League (NASL) in its home leg of the I-4 Derby, presented by United World Soccer. The derby match is set for Wednesday, April 30, and kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Despite the outcome of the match not affecting either team's position in their respective league standings, the result of the I-4 Derby weighs heavily on both clubs' supporters. Since Orlando's arrival to the Central Florida market three years ago, a fierce rivalry has ensued between the two sides' fan groups, creating an exciting and raucous atmosphere in previous matches.
In 2013, Orlando brought the inaugural trophy home after defeating the 2012 NASL Soccer Bowl Champions 3-2 both at the Citrus Bowl and on the road. Unlike last year's match in preseason, both teams have already begun league play in USL PRO and NASL, allowing for more competitive fixtures in this year's competition.
After drawing its first two matches of the 2014 season, Orlando has won its past four league games and is currently tied with LA Galaxy II for first place in USL PRO. Leading the team in scoring is the club's first Major League Soccer (MLS) signing Kevin Molino, with the Trinidadian International scoring four times in six matches.
Meanwhile, the Rowdies have competed in three NASL matches so far.
Tampa drew its opening two matches before suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, April 26. Brian Shriver leads the Rowdies in scoring with one goal on the season.
Tickets for the Lions' home leg of the I-4 Derby, presented by United World Soccer, are limited but still available. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Orlando City ticket representatives at 1-855-ORL-CITY.
The away leg will take place on Sunday, July 6, at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla. Tickets for the match in St. Pete. will be available for purchase at a later date.
