Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release
WHAT TO WATCH FOR AND WHAT TO EXPECT
The Red Wolves return to action at CHI Memorial Stadium to take on Central Valley Fuego FC. Following a packed out home opener against the Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC that ended in a 0-0 draw, Chattanooga now looks to get their first goal of the 2023 season.
Goalkeeper Carlos ÃÃÂvilez shone in the last match with eight saves, setting a new Red Wolves record for saves in a single match. His performance earned him a spot on the USL League One's Team of the Week as well as a nomi- nation for Save of the Week due to an impressive kick save in the thirtieth minute of the match.
Chattanooga met Central Valley Fuego three times in 2022, most recently on August 3, 2022, resulting in a 1-0 win for the Red Wolves. The two previous meetings between the clubs favored Chattanooga with a 2-0 on June 11th and a 2-2 draw on May 14th. This match will also open Central Valley's season against USL League One teams, having not yet faced a league through two weekends of league action.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Fans will be treated to a new post-match Man of the Match promotion this season at CHI Memorial Stadium presented by Timber Craft Whiskey.
Hosted on the brand new Howl Bar, the player receiving the honor will be escorted to the newest hospitality area to enjoy a celebratory (and purely ceremonial) drink with the fans and supporters as well signing a genuine whiskey barrel to memorialize the moment.
CHATTANOOGA TO HOST SECOND ROUND OF LAMAR HUNT OPEN CUP
The Chattanooga Red Wolves will host a U.S. Open Cup match for the first time in club history Wednesday April 5th at 7:30pm. The match will be against the USL Championship side Birmingham Legion FC at CHI Memo- rial Stadium in a Second Round matchup.
U.S. Soccer has announced the pairings and hosting scenarios for the Sec- ond Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - U.S. Soccer's National Championship. Twenty-four Division II and 22 Division III pro teams will see their first tournament action, joining 14 First Round winners in a Second Round that will feature 30 matches across the country.
Sean McDaniel President and GM of the Red Wolves is excited about being selected as a host team. "What a great day in Red Wolves history. Hosting an Open Cup match for the first time in our history is something our club and our fans have desired, to host it during our fifth year anniversary sea- son makes it even better. Drawing Birmingham should provide for a very entertaining match and make it one of the early marquee games."
Now in its 108th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - U.S. Soccer's National Championship - has crowned a champion since 1914 in every year except 2020 and 2021. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. In 1999, the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States was renamed to honor American soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt. RICARDO JÃEREZ JOINS RED WOLVES FROM INTERNATIONAL DUTY
Goalkeeper Ricardo Jérez joins the Red Wolves this weekend after being called for international duty with the Guatemalan national team for the Concacaf Nations League. Although Jérez did not appear in the matches, the Guatemalans won both matches on Friday, March 24th against Belize, 2-1 and Monday, March 27th against French Guiana, 4-0. That last victory placed Guatemala in first place of Group D and quali- fied them for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup with matches set to start later in the summer. Other qualifying teams include the United States, Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
NEW ADDITIONS TO CHI MEMORIAL STADIUM
The off-season has seen many changes in and around CHI Memorial Stadium; in addition to expanded seating that brings the total capacity to over 4,000, Tennessee's first soccer specific stadium will feature a new, two-story indoor and outdoor sports bar called "The Howl Bar." This space will also function as an additional group area available for reservation for up to 225 people.
The Executive Club, which has been sold out every game since it opened, has also been expanded, receiving additional seating. The stadium now features a newly added East side grandstand. Fans will also enjoy new food and beverage stations throughout the stadium as well as additional restrooms and a new merchandise area.
On top of the upgrades made inside CHI Memorial Stadium, the surrounding areas are also rapidly changing in anticipation of a new development project titled "The Gateway" that will feature living, work, and entertainment offerings with townhouses, offices, and retail or restaurant spaces.
