Maryland NightHawks News Release
Upper Marlboro, MD. Andrew Haines, owner of the ABA Maryland Nighthawks professional basketball team announced today the signing of former Villanova University standout Jermaine Medley and Virginia Union product Curtis Yarbrough for their inaugural season. According to Haines, "We are excited to add two local players that have the athletic ability and versatility of Jermaine and Curtis. Both players were noticed at an open tryout in Bowie, Maryland on July 10th and we brought them back for a second look on August 7th- after their performances at that tryout it was an easy decision on our part."
Curtis Yarbrough (6'8, 230) played last season for the Barrie Bandits of the Ontario Professional Basketball Association, where he averaged 12.4 points, 7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. "Curtis gives us some size in the middle but also has the flexibility to play a number of positions. He will be a big asset to the NightHawks," Haines added.
Medley (6'2", 180lb Guard) averaged 10.3 points and 3.8 rebounds with Villanova his senior season. He has spent the last four years playing professionally in a number of leagues, most recently the Ontario Basketball Association. Haines added, "We could not be happier to have someone that has as much professional experience as Jermaine, we expect him to be one of our team leaders and someone we could count on in crunch time."
Tom Doyle, who represents both players, added, " The NightHawks are a great fit for both players. They bring a great deal of experience to the team and we are happy to be a part of the organization. Tom E. Doyle, ESQ, is the NightHawks elite corporate sponsor.
The Nighthawks will be holding a open tryout camp in Raleigh, NC on September 11th and plan a final camp in Maryland in late September/early October. For more information, visit www.marylandnighthawks.com or call (410) 487-0850 or email info@marylandnighthawks.com.
