Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Francis Martes held the Inland Empire 66ers scoreless through his first six innings and provided his second straight quality start for the JetHawks in an 8-2 victory on Tuesday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Martes (2-1) pitched into the seventh inning for the JetHawks (58-56), allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out three.
Chase McDonald went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for Lancaster, including his 22nd home run of the season. J.D. Davis went 0-for-4 with a walk, ending his streak of six consecutive games with a homer. Mott Hyde recorded a third-inning single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Both teams stood scoreless until the fifth inning, when Alex Bregman gave the JetHawks a 1-0 lead with a double to right-center field that scored James Ramsay from first base.
In the seventh, Hyde hit a one-out single and Ramsay walked. Alex Blackford entered in relief of Harrison Cooney (1-10) and yielded a RBI-single to Bregman, then later uncorked a wild pitch to score Ramsay from third. Cooney was charged with three runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings of work for the 66ers (56-56).
Brandon Bayardi led off the bottom of the seventh with a double for Inland Empire and scored on a fielding error by Hyde at second base, but McDonald extended the JetHawks' lead to 5-1 with a two-run homer in the eighth. Inland Empire's final run would come on a Kody Eaves single in the bottom of the eighth off Albert Minnis.
Lancaster added three more runs in the top of the ninth against Garrett Nuss, as Ronnie Mitchell hit a two-run double and McDonald contributed a RBI-single.
Tyler Brunnemann pitched the final 1.2 innings for the JetHawks and earned his team-leading fifth save.
The series continues on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Austin Chrismon (5-2, 3.70) gets the start for the JetHawks, while Jordan Kipper (5-8, 4.88) will pitch for Inland Empire.
