Marshall, Morgan And Williams Earn Week 15 Honors

July 13, 2010 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

TULSA - Oklahoma City wide receiver TIMON MARSHALL, Tulsa wide receiver DONOVAN MORGAN and Spokane defensive back TRAVIS WILLIAMS have been named the JLS Ironman, Russell Athletic Offensive Players and Riddell Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 15 of 2010. In addition to these three awards, the AFL is also highlighting the player who makes the best Catch of the Week, the Playmaker of the Week and the Highlight of the Week.

The Cutters Catch of the Week Award for Week 15 goes to Dallas wide receiver MATT FIELDS, while Alabama wide receiver CJ JOHNSON and Spokane wide receiver HUEY WHITTAKER have been named the Playmakers of the Week. The Highlight of the Week award has gone to Jacksonville quarterback AARON GARCIA.

JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Marshall (5-10, 180, Ottawa University) battled the Barnstormers throughout the night, leading Oklahoma City to its third straight victory. The wide receiver caught the Yard Dawgz first touchdown of the night with a 14-yard reception from QB Tommy Grady. Marshall's heroic moment came in the dying seconds of the game with a 26-yard catch to squeeze a win over Iowa. The 52-42 victory was a record night for Marshall, with a season-high 151 receiving yards. Marshall ended the game with three touchdowns from 13 receptions, plus six kick-off returns for 70 yards.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Morgan (6-3, 220, Pearl River C.C.) put up impressive stats against the BattleWings defense in the Talons home win. The first two touchdowns for Morgan came in the first quarter to snatch the lead from Bossier-Shreveport. Two more came in the second, with the final touchdown in the third from an explosive 45-yard reception. Almost every reception from Morgan turned into a touchdown with nine catches for five touchdowns and 180 yards. Morgan's consistency ranks him at No. 2 in the league with scoring per game (20.8) and No. 3 in total scoring (270).

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Williams (5-9, 180, East Carolina) might be the smallest guy on Spokane's defensive roster, but came up with the biggest play in the conquest over Cleveland. After an exhausting battle between the two teams, Spokane elected to kickoff to Cleveland after winning the coin toss in overtime. On the Gladiator's first drive in overtime, Williams caught his sixth interception of the season and returned it for a 43-yard game-winning touchdown. This spectacular play was also nominated for Highlight of the Week. Williams also accounted six tackles against Cleveland.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Fields (6-2, 210, Hardin Simmons) looked as if he was at the wrong sporting event when Jacksonville played Utah. On third and long, Fields jumped straight up and caught a tremendous back-handed catch as if he was catching a baseball with his glove. Fields then swooped the ball under his arm before being tackled against the boards. The one-handed catch was also nominated for Highlight of the Week. Fields ended the night with five receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

NIFTY PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK

Johnson (5-10, 185, Tennessee State) and Whittaker (6-5, 220, South Florida) both take the title of Playmaker of the Week this week. Johnson attacked the Predators defense early with a 22-yard touchdown reception to put the first points on the board. Johnson collected 18 receptions for 205 yards and one touchdown, including a 38-yard catch. Plus, 4 kickoff returns for 82 yards. Whittaker surpassed his season-high record with 153 receiving yards and five touchdowns against Cleveland, scoring a touchdown in each quarter. This dangerous playmaker helped Spokane defeat the Gladiators.

SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Garcia (6-3, 185, Texas Southern) set another record in the football world by breaking 1,000 career combined touchdowns. This milestone came in the final seconds before halftime with an 11-yard touchdown pass, Garcia's third of the game. His 1,000 touchdowns comes by 955 passing touchdowns and 45 rushing. Garcia ended the historic night with 18-of-21 completions for 222 yards and five touchdowns.
