April 25, 2003 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Texas Rim Rockers News Release
Texas Rim Rocker CEO Mark McClure, 35, has been asked by the Mexican National Team liaisons here in the States to form a US squad to play their team on May 31st and June 7th. The team, yet to be named, will be made up of U.S. players with a diverse pro background. Chris Daleo, CBA Coach of the Year and Rockford Lightning head coach has been tapped by McClure to put together and coach the team. The May 31st location has yet to be finalized but the June 7th date will be played in Dallas.
"This will be an incredible opportunity for the players and coaches to strut their stuff against Mexico's best and showcase their talents to various NBA and overseas scouts. I am excited that they contacted me to put this together, and with a coach of Daleo's class and talent, I expect us to do quite well and be competitive, even on such short notice", McClure stated. "Chris has given us his commitment to coach, it is now up to my group to finalize the details. Our associate on these game, Marlen Whitely has a very good relationship with the Mexican National Team and a solid grasp of the international basketball community. He will no doubt be a major asset as we look to play other international teams this summer".
The team expects to carry 12 on the squad, and McClure will hold a try-out in Dallas to pick two of the players. Daleo will form the remainder of the squad.
"There will be more information coming out in the next week or so as we tighten up the details, but the dates and our opponent are set", McClure added.
