Mayhem Win, Takes Division Lead In one of the most exciting finishes in the history of the CIFL, the Marion Mayhem came back from a three point deficit in the dying seconds of regulation, taking a 39-33 overtime victory over the Ft. Wayne Freedom at the Coliseum on Saturday Night.
Taveres Woodley connected with his Mayhem teammates for four touchdowns, including a nineteen yard dart to Maurice Douse in overtime to give Coach Pepe Pearson's squad the victory in the Mayhem's first overtime possession.
The win put the Mayhem in the top spot in the Continental Indoor Football League's Eastern Division with a 3-1 record.
This Weekend's Mayhem The Mayhem will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Hoffman Estates, IL for a Saturday night encounter with the Chicago Slaughter with kickoff at 8:30PM EST.
The Slaughter are in first place in the CIFL's Western Division with a perfect 4-0 mark.
The CIFL's Chicago entry is coached by Steve "Mongo" McMichael, a former member of the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers. McMichael, one of the top defensive lineman of the eighties, was a member of the 1985 Bears team that won the Super Bowl.
After retiring from the NFL in 1994, he jumped to the professional wrestling ring as a member of the World Championship Wrestling promotion until 1999.
Taking To The Air The Mayhem are leading the CIFL in pass efficiency through week four of the 2009 season, completing 69 passes in 106 attempts, good for a 65.1 percent success rate.
Mayhem QB Tavares Woodley is third in the CIFL in total offensive yards with a combined 726 yards in four games (68 rushing/658 passing).
Upcoming Mayhem After this weekend's game in Chicago, the Mayhem will have next weekend off, and will return to action on Saturday April 25th, when they will head to Wheeling, WV to face the Wheeling Wildcats.
The Mayhem will return to the Coliseum in Marion on Saturday May 4th, then they will host the Miami Valley Silverbacks.
