Mario Rodriguez called to the Guatemalan National Team

Miami, FL- Miami FC forward Mario Rodriguez has been called to the Guatemalan National Team to play a friendly match against Panama next Wednesday, September 6, in Guatemala City.

The match against the Panamanians is going to be held at Mateo Flores Stadium at 8:00 PM. This is the second compromise Guatemala is going to face under new Head Coach Hernan Dario Gomez and is the first to be played at the Central American country since the Colombian took over.

In "Bolillo's" first game as coach of the "chapines", Guatemala faced Haiti at Tropical Park Stadium in Miami on Wednesday, August 16. The final score was 1-1, and Mario Rodriguez scored the goal for the Guatemalans.

Along with Mario Rodriguez, international forwards, Carlos Ruiz (FC Dallas) and Dwight Pezzarossi (Numancia) were also called for the game against Panama.

"It is a pleasure and an honor to be called to the National Team one more time. I think this is great because it means that the coach liked what he saw from me in the game against Haiti," expressed Rodriguez today after learning that he is returning to the National Team.

The game will also serve as a tribute to Juan Carlos Plata, who is the All-Time leading scorer for the Guatemalan National Team with 35 goals.

Rodriguez will join his Guatemalan teammates on Sunday afternoon at the Proyecto Goal complex in Guatemala, and will return to Miami on Thursday, September 7, where he will reunite with his Miami FC teammates and fly to Puerto Rico, where the South Floridian squad will be playing their final two games of the regular season that weekend.

OTHER MIAMI FC NEWS

Although Tropical Storm Ernesto was on its way to Miami, the team managed to not lose a day of practice will have practice today at 5:00 PM at Tropical Park Stadium.

Romario, Diego Walsh, and Sean Fraser were named to the USL Team of the Week for their efforts in Miami FC's two wins over the Atlanta Silverbacks last weekend. Combining both games, Romario scored four goals, Diego Walsh scored three and San Fraser scored two. This is Romario's fourth league wide recognition, Walsh's third, and Fraser's first. In addition, Romario was named USL Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Miami FC plays their last regular season home game this Friday night at 8:00 PM, at Tropical Park Stadium against the Minnesota Thunder.
