
Mariners Win in Walk-Off Fashion

Pulaski, VA (July 6, 2011) - An exciting game was in store for the 841 fans in attendance for tonight game, as the Pulaski Mariners hosted the Bristol White Sox for game three of their four game series. Runs were at a premium tonight, but the Mariners found some clutch hitting late in the game with a two out double by Efrain Nunez that won the game for the Mariners 4-3.
Jordy Lara started the scoring for the Mariners in the bottom of the second inning when he hit his third homerun of the year to left center field. The solo shot put the Mariners up 1-0 until the White Sox answered back in the top of the third, with Collin Kuhn being hit by a pitch that scored Sean O'Connell.
The game stayed even, with the exception of both teams swapping runs in the sixth inning, until the White Sox took the lead in the top of the ninth with Brad Salgado's single to left field that would score Rangel Ravelo for the go-ahead run.
Down 3-2 and two out in the bottom of the ninth Jordy Lara walked. The next batter up, Dillon Hazlett, singled to center field moving Lara to third. So with two out and runners on the corners, Efrain Nunez stepped up to the plate with the game on the line. With the count early in the at-bat, Nunez blasted a ball off the right field wall that would clear the bases and win the game for the Pulaski Mariners 4-3. The win boosted the Mariners to 11-5 on the season.
Kyle Hunter (1-0) earned the win for the Mariners throwing three and a third innings in relief, allowing one run (unearned), and walking none. Matthew Lane was hit with the loss for the White Sox after blowing the save.
The Mariners will take on the White Sox for the final time this season at Calfee Park tomorrow at 7:00 p.m., as the Mariners look for the four game sweep.
