Mariners Win Close Game In Pulaski

Pulaski, VA (June 22, 2011) - A pitching duel was in store at Historic Calfee field tonight as the Mariners took the field for their second game of a three game series against the Danville Braves. 867 fans were on hand to watch their home town team down the Braves for a second consecutive day by a score of 1-0.

Mayckol Guaipe took the hill for the Mariners against Lucus LaPoint of the Braves. Lapoint started the game sizzling for the Braves, pitching four perfect innings before allowing a leadoff double by Guilermo Pimentel to start the fifth inning. He then scored on an RBI double by second baseman Daniel Paolini. That one run would be all the Mariners would need, as the hung on for the win to move them to 2-0 on the season.

Mayckol Guaipe (1-0) got the win for the Mariners pitching five and two thirds innings, allowing no runs, and giving up only three hits. Angel Raga (1) came on in relief for the Mariners in the eighth inning, finishing the game with a perfect one and one third innings of work and recording the save. Lucas LaPoint (0-1) picked up loss for the Braves, who left eleven runners on base.

The final game of the opening series for the Mariners will begin Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Calfee Park. Come cheer on your Pulaski Mariners tomorrow as they look at sweep the Braves and stay perfect on the season.
