Mariners Win Again in Extras

July 23, 2014 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

The Pulaski Mariners (17-14) and Bristol Pirates (9-20) were unable to settle matters in regulation Tuesday night. The two teams took the game into 11 innings where the Mariners secured a 7-4 victory.

Bristol was held to only one hit through the first six innings of the game, but their bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh inning when they scored three times for a two-run advantage.

The Mariners responded for one run in the eighth to tie the game at three all, and that is where the score would remain for two-and-a-half innings.

The top of the 11th started off with a bang. Wayne Taylor hit a leadoff home run to right field to begin a four-run barrage. Pulaski scored three more runs without the benefit of an RBI hit. Pirate pitchers hit two Mariners, threw two wild pitches, and issued four walks in the final inning.

Peter Miller (2-1, 0.92 ERA) won the game for Pulaski. He pitched the closing two-and-two-thirds innings while surrendering only three hits.

The two teams play one last game in Bristol on Wednesday night.
