Pulaski Mariners News Release
Pulaski, VA (June 25, 2011) - A record crowd of 3,111 packed into Historic Calfee Park Saturday night to watch their Pulaski Mariners take on the Princeton Rays in game two of their three game series. The record attendance is the most ever to attend a game baseball game at Calfee Park. They picked a good day to visit the park as their Mariners remained undefeated, winning the game 6-3.
Jose Valdivia was on the mound to start the game for the Mariners. If there was ever a perfect pitching performance in Calfee Park, it was from Valdivia. He threw five complete innings of no-hit baseball, and was in complete control throughout his first appearance of the season, striking out five batters along the way.
A bit of a slow start to the game offensively for both clubs with the first run not being scored until the bottom of the fourth inning, with a sacrifice fly by Guillermo Pimentel scoring Jean Acevedo from third. The Mariners added onto their lead in the sixth, scoring four times to push the lead to 5-0. The Rays didn't score their first run until the seventh inning, scoring a pair of runs and adding one more in the ninth. However, it was a case of too little too late for the Rays as the Pulaski Mariners went on to win the game by a score of 6-3.
Jose Valdivia (1-0) got the win for the Mariners, and Angel Raga (2) threw the final two innings earning the save. Matt Swilley (0-1) was credited with the loss pitching four innings, allowing one earned run, and striking out six.
The final game of the three game series against the Princeton Rays (3-2) will be Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. Come support your Pulaski Mariners (5-0) as they look to stay unbeaten in their final game of this six game home stand.
