Mariners Mash Their Way to 11-10 Victory
July 12, 2014 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release
The Pulaski Mariners' offense fired on all cylinders during Saturday's contest with the Greeneville Astros. Pulaski hitters scored 11 runs on 15 hits, yet they only escaped with a one-run win.
Greeneville set the high-octane tone with a four-run first inning. Mariner starter Rigoberto Garcia (0-1, 60.75 ERA) lasted only two-thirds of an inning while yielding four runs. Garcia struggled with his command-walking five in that span.
The Astros' starter, Reymin Guduan, fared little better than his counterpart. Pulaski roughed him up over three and one-third innings to the tune of seven runs on ten hits.
Pulaski shared the wealth on offense, and six starters recorded a run batted in. Jay Baum led the team with three RBIs to increase his team lead to 17. Wayne Taylor also drove in three runs from the three spot and smacked a double.
Ugueth Urbina (1-2, 6.39) earned his first win of the season after pitching the middle three innings of the contest and limiting the Astros to two runs.
Peter Miller (0-1, 1.17 ERA) sealed the victory for the Mariners. He held Greeneville off the board for the final six outs for his second save.
Pulaski and Greeneville play game number two tomorrow night at 7pm.
