Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA (October 28, 2008)-The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings announced today that they have been assigned WR Manwell Talbert. Talbert, who reached the 100 career touchdown plateau last season on his way to leading the BattleWings to the Southwest Division Championship, was excited to be back with the team for the 2009 season.
"I don't see any major changes in my career and I want to finish strong here," said Talbert. "I take great pride in being part of the change of culture here in the BattleWings' organization. When I came here we were one of the bottom teams in af2, now we're a team that is feared by other organizations in the league."
Talbert finished the regular season with 1,327 yards and 23 touchdowns on 106 receptions and feels there is some unfinished business from last season. "We made a huge step by winning the Division Championship this year, the year before we went to the National Conference Championship game, so this year we're going to go to the ArenaCup."
Talbert wants to continue his attack on af2 receiving records, "(100 career receiving touchdowns) was a big step in my career, I'm just one of the few guys in the league to do it and I'm very proud to be in that group which also includes (2008 teammate) Chavis McCollister. I could not have done it without my teammates and my quarterback Gary Cooper. I plan to add another 100."
Head Coach Jon Norris was equally excited about Talbert being back for the 2009 campaign. "We're excited about Manny deciding to return to the BattleWings," Norris said of the signing. "He's demonstrated great leadership during his 2 years with the team and his stepping up and choosing to be with the BattleWings further demonstrates his leadership. He's become a recognizable persona and face with the BattleWings and within the community."
"Coach Norris and his staff are one of the best coaching staffs as a group," Talbert noted. "They have really grown together and that is very comforting as a player. Coach Norris is a coach and a father figure to me as he has always tried to help me go on to the next level while Coach Lyles has grown into a great offensive mind and we as offensive players know that he will put us in great situations to excel." The 6'2, 220 pound WR who goes by "Manny" feels at home in the Bossier-Shreveport area, "This is a very supportive community, I love the Bossier-Shreveport area. The fans are great and have always been wonderful."
