Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER WOLVES VS. CINCINNATI JUNGLE KATS July 7, at 7:30 pm
U.S. BANK ARENA, CINCINNATI, OH
WOLVES (6-6) VS. JUNGLE KATS (1-11)
...............................................................
The Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's professional arenafootball2 team, will be looking for some consistency when they travel into Cincinnati, OH to take on the Jungle Kats (1-11) tomorrow night at 7:30 at the U.S. Bank Arena. The Wolves (6-6), who'll be looking to go above..500 for the first time this season, haven't strung together a back-to-back win streak since Week's Three and Four with home wins over the Fort Wayne Fusion (54-41) and Mahoning Valley Thunder (67-49). Since then Manchester's game results have resembled that of a see-saw, alternating every win with a loss, an up-and-down pattern that Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett hopes to change.
"This game against Cincinnati worries me more than any other game we've played this season," said Bennett on this Saturday's opponent. "Although their record doesn't show it, they are a very good team. We need to build on last week's performance and prove that we can be consistent in all phases of the game."
Manchester's offense set a new franchise record with their 80 points scored in last week's 80-57 upset over the then #5 ranked South Georgia Wildcats (8-4). Prior to the 80 point performance the Wolves offense has struggled to find its groove as they averaged 46.3 points in their first 11 games, while surpassing the 60 point mark just once. The Wolves defense has given up an average of 50.0 points through the first 12 games.
Helping to lead Manchester's defense has been veteran defensive back Allistair Sebastien and rookie defensive end Maurice Fountain, two Wolves that are on pace to set new individual regular season franchise records. Sebastien, a five-year veteran, currently leads the team in tackles (71.5), interceptions (six) and passes defended (nine). The New York native is the af2's leader in career interceptions with 31 and if he nabs one more this season he'll set a new Wolves single-season franchise record with seven. Fountain, an af2 rookie, currently has 9.5 sacks to his credit which is just two shy of the Wolves single-season record set by Charlie Cook in 2003 while playing for the Mohegan Wolves.
"I'm not really thinking about it (the record) to tell you the truth," said Sebastien. "I'm more worried about our current season as we are lacking some consistency. I just hope I can make some big plays so that I can help our team make the playoffs."
If the af2 playoffs were to start today Manchester would be holding down the #6 seed which would require a trip to Moline, IL to face the #3 seeded Quad City Steamwheelers (8-5).
