Saint John Riptide News Release
Manchester, NH: The division leading Manchester Millrats host their arch rival - the Vermont Frost Heaves, on Sunday at 2:30pm at Southern New Hampshire University in a match up with considerable playoff implications.
Vermont, the two time champions of the ABA ('07 & '08), have found themselves in a veritable must-win scenario, having dropped two games in a row, and now with a record of 7-5. The surging Halifax Rainmen are 8-5, and just added the PBL's leading scorer in A.J. Millien. Manchester, at 9-3, leads Vermont by two games and cannot afford to allow either team to gain ground.
Manchester defeated the Montreal Sasquatch 137-85 on Friday night. Alex Owumi, Kenyon Gamble, and newly acquired 6'10 center Aaron Spears all sat out Friday night, but are expected to be in uniform on Sunday. Vermont was defeated by the Rochester Razorsharks on Saturday afternoon 113-103 in Barre, Vt.
"We know the Frost Heaves will be coming into our house motivated and hungry after two straight losses, but I expect our guys to match that intensity and show what we are made of," explained Millrats Head Coach Rob Spon.
The Manchester Millrats are led by former Portland Trailblazer (NBA) Desmond Ferguson (17.0 ppg), former SNHU and Manchester Central HS star Sam Carey (13.8 ppg and 6.2 rpg), and lightening fast point guard Al Stewart (10.6 ppg and 5.3 apg).
Vermont features former Bryant University star point guard John Williams (15.2 ppg), and sharpshooters Greg Plummer (14.3 ppg) and Joe "Lucky" Nixon (13.7 ppg).
This game figures to be one for the ages with a dramatic playoff-like atmosphere.
Tickets are just $10 for adults and $5 for kids (17 and under) and are available at the door or online at www.manchestermillrats.com. Doors open one hour prior to tip off.
