Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, VT - In a game that had all the feeling of a playoff game, the Manchester Millrats defeated the Vermont Frost Heaves 94-90 to take the title in the inaugural PBL Green Mountain Tip-off tournament.

It was a physical fast paced game as evidenced by four lead changes in the first quarter and Manchester holding a slim 23-22 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Vermont managed to go up by 8 points, but Manchester cut it to 51-47 to end the first half.

The third quarter was back and forth until Manchester tied the game at 64 on 2 free throws by Sam Carey with 3:52 left in the quarter. A 3 pointer by Desmond Ferguson gave Manchester a 71-68 lead at the end of three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw 3 lead changes and the Frost Heaves were up until Manchester scored 5 unanswered points to cut Vermont's lead to 86-85. Al Stewart tied the game at 90 with 2 free throws and an offensive rebound by Sam Carey sealed the win for the Millrats.

Coach Voigt overall was pleased with his teams effort; "I was pleased with the way we played as a team for only our second time playing together. The Millrats have been together for about 6 weeks longer than us, and have 5 or 6 pre-season games already. The difference was rebounding and some missed opportunities on our part"

The Frost Heaves were lead by Richard Millsap with 17 points and 7 rebounds while Manchester was lead by Carey with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Williams added 13 for the Frost Heaves and PJ Young added 14 for the Millrats.

In the consolation game, The Quebec Kebekwa defeated the Montreal Sasquatch 90-89 in 3 overtimes.
