Miami Manatees News Release

Miami – The Manatees extended their WHA2 best home-winning streak to 12-1-1 as they knocked off the Alabama Slammers by a score of 5-1.

Greg LeColst got the lone goal in the first period at 13:20. LeColst grabbed a loose puck at the right circle, and unleashed a wrist-shot that beat Fred Beaubien cleanly.

The Manatees got two goals in the second period from Dan Donnette and Josh Liebenow to give the Manatees a three goal lead as the teams went to the locker-rooms to end the second period.

Like the second period, the Manatees scored two more goals from Kevin Swider and Darcy Johnson. Johnson's goal extended his goal-scoring streak to three games.

Miami's Sean Weaver was on his way to his second consecutive shut-out, but Ryan Prentice's off-angle shot was lost at Weaver's feet. Unable to see the puck, Weaver accidently kicked the puck into the net, stopping Weaver's shut-out streak at 115 minutes.

Despite the late goal, the Manatees held on for the 5-1 lead. The Manatees take on the Orlando Seals Saturday night, and close off the home-stand Sunday against the Macon Trax.

The Miami Manatees face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games are broadcast on www.irn.fm.

Individual and Group Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825) or visit www.miamimanatees.com.
