Mammoths Shock Lions in OT

PORTLAND - The Mammoths (4-8) battled with the league-leading Lions (8-4) to continue their at-home win streak to three. The Mammoths went into week 15 off a bye week and were ready to try and defeat the Lions. The Mammoths upset the Lions 42-41 in overtime.
Both teams were scoreless at the end of the first quarter. The Mammoths scored the first touchdown early in the second quarter to put the Mammoths on the board. The Lions responded to the Mammoths' touchdown by scoring a touchdown, tying the game 7-7. The Lions spent the entire game answering Mammoths' touchdowns to try and take the lead but never did. Quarterback Jonathan Bane threw a touchdown pass to Wide Receiver Rob Brown and the Mammoths took the lead 14-7. The Lions scored another touchdown to tie the game 14-14 going into halftime.
The third quarter started with Bane throwing a touchdown pass to Brown, and Kicker Henry Nell's extra point allowed for the Mammoths to regain the lead at 21-14, but not for long. The Lions scored a touchdown during their possession, but their kicker missed the extra point, and the Mammoths led the Lions 21-20 going into the fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Bane threw a touchdown pass to Brown and Nell's extra point extended the Mammoths' lead 28-20. Lions' Quarterback Mason Espinosa threw a touchdown pass to Wide Receiver Jarmon Forston, making the score 28-26 Maine. Espinosa rushed into the end zone for a two-point conversion, tying the game 28-28. Both quarterbacks ran into the end zones for touchdowns, tying the game 35-35 at the end of regulation and heading into overtime.
The Lions won the coin toss and chose to play defense, giving the Mammoths the opportunity to try and score. Bane threw a pass to Brown who scored a touchdown, and Nell's extra point put the Mammoths in the lead at 42-35. The Lions scored a touchdown during their chance to tie the game, making the score 42-41 Maine.
The game ended with the Mammoths on top 42-41 after the Lions were unsuccessful at completing a two-point conversion.
Rob Brown received nine passes totaling 130 yards and five touchdowns. Bane went 23-45 totaling 262 yards and only threw one interception. He also ran in one touchdown.
The Mammoths' defense stopped the Lions' offense from getting into the end zone to take the lead. Defensive back Robert Brown had six tackles and caught one interception. Linebacker Niko Sierra had five tackles and two sacks, which totaled a loss of 14 yards.
The Mammoths are looking to add another win to their at-home win streak next week when they take on the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks.
