July 12, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have re-signed right wings Jason Kostadine and Jared Brown. Per club policy, no contract terms were announced.

Kostadine, 27, scored three goals, added five assists and collected 179 penalty minutes while playing in each of the Mallards' 66 regular season games last year. Kostadine has piled up 135 or more minutes in penalties in each of the last four seasons and in six of his first seven pro campaigns.

"I'm very happy to have Jason's character on the ice and in the dressing room," said Mallards head coach and general manager David Bell. "This signing helps set the tone for the type of work ethic and character this year's Mallards will exemplify."

Kostadine first signed with the Mallards last season after spending 2009-10 with the International Hockey League's Port Huron Icehawks. Before returning to North America with the Icehawks, Kostadine played in Britain's Elite Ice Hockey League with the Hull Stingrays in 2008-09. The 6' 2", 210-pound St. Louis native spent his first four years in the ECHL, where he suited up for the Texas Wildcatters, Stockton Thunder, Reading Royals, Augusta Lynx and Bakersfield Condors. As a rookie with the Wildcatters in 2004-05 he set a career high for penalty minutes in a season by piling up 224 minutes in the box.

Over the course of his career Kostadine has scored 30 goals, produced 79 points and run up 1,100 penalty minutes in 404 games.

Before turning pro, Kostadine played for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Hull Olympiques for two seasons and completed his junior career by taking to the ice with the Quebec Remparts in 2002-03. He topped 200 penalty minutes in each of his final two junior seasons and registered 18 goals, 54 points and a total of 605 PIM's in 195 career games in the QMJHL. Kostadine was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the eighth round of the 2002 National Hockey League Draft with the two hundred fifty-first overall pick.

Brown, 25, scored twice and picked up an assist in five games with the Mallards after joining the Flock in March following the completion of his senior season at Northern Michigan. The Gardner, Kansas, native scored two goals and totaled ten points in 30 games for NMU last season.

"We're excited to see if Jared can carry over his strong finish coming out of college last season to this year and be an offensive catalyst for us," said Bell.

Over four years as a Wildcat, the 5' 10", 195-pound Brown scored 32 times and recorded 83 points in 155 games. His junior year saw Brown produce nine goals and 23 points in 41 games while helping NMU to the school's first NCAA tournament bid in a decade.

Brown spent four seasons in the junior ranks- with the North American Hockey League's Lone Star Cavalry and Santa Fe Roadrunners and the United States Hockey League's Lincoln Stars- before heading to Northern Michigan.

Kostadine and Brown join fellow returnees Eric Giosa, Joel Gasper and Brandon Marino to bring the number of signings announced by the Mallards for the 2011-12 season to five.

Season tickets for the Flock's 2011-12 campaign are now on sale. Mallard season ticket holders receive significant savings and a host of exclusive benefits. For more season ticket information, fans can contact the Mallards at (309) 277-1364 or tickets@myqcmallards.com.
