
Mallards Sweep Loggers in Game Two of Doubleheader

La Crosse, WI - June 30, 2014. The Madison Mallards (18-15) completed a sweep of the La Crosse Loggers (21-14) in the second game of their split doubleheader tonight in La Crosse by a score of 4-3. The Mallards beat the Loggers earlier today at the "Duck Pond" in a close one, winning 2-1. They are now 4-0 against the Loggers this year.
Mallards right fielder Brian Rodemoyer (Illinois State) led the club offensively in game two, going 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. He hit a home run in the second inning, the second one of the frame after designated hitter Pete Alonso (Florida) preceded Rodemoyer with a solo shot.
Mallards starter A.J. Bogucki (North Carolina) went five innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out three to move to 2-0 on the year.
Nate Hoffmann (Madison College) provided a superb relief effort for the Mallards, going 2.1 scoreless innings and letting up two hits.
Loggers starting pitcher Connor Baits (UC- Santa Barbara) gave up four runs on six hits, striking out six batters in the loss.
Mallards reliever Andrew Buckley (California) received his first save of the year, retiring the side in the ninth to preserve the Mallards 18th win of the season.
In game one of today's twin bill, Mallards starter Sterling Sharp (Eastern Michigan) went 5.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit to guide the Mallards to a 2-1 win.
The Mallards scored in the second inning on a sacrifice fly and would go up 2-1 in the fifth after first baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) singled to score right fielder Alex Bacon (North Florida).
Closer Tim Black (Central Michigan) came on to close in the eighth inning, retiring the five batters he faced to receive his ninth save of the year.
The Mallards are off tomorrow and resume play at the "Duck Pond" on Wednesday, June 2nd against the Kalamazoo Growlers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm. Wednesday marks the start of the second half of the Northwoods League season.
Wednesday is Alliant Energy South Central Library System Reading Night with a Book Drive. Fans can bring their used books to donate to the SCLS. It is also Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Appreciation Night with wiener dog races.
