Mallards Sign Boutin-Gagnon
MOLINE, Ill. (January 10, 2013) - The Quad City Mallards have signed defenseman Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon, the Mallards announced today.
"Gabriel is a guy who can provide a physical presence and add toughness to our lineup," said Mallards coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "He's a young player who's shown a willingness to work hard, take the body and stand up for his teammates which is an important role on any successful team."
Boutin-Gagnon, who turns 23 next Monday, joins the Mallards after starting the season with the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Val d'Or, Quebec, native collected a league-leading 124 penalty minutes, scored two goals and added three assists in 25 games with the Ice Flyers.
Boutin-Gagnon split last season- his rookie campaign- between the SPHL's Huntsville Havoc and Mississippi RiverKings, scoring twice, notching 11 points and totaling 191 penalty minutes in 59 games.
Before turning pro, Boutin-Gagnon spent four seasons in the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League with the Valleyfield Braves and Terrebonne Cobras.
