Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, Ill. (December 31, 2009) - Chris Lipsett scored two goals and picked up two assists and Patrick Levesque scored twice and added one assist as the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Thursday night extended their regulation unbeaten streak to four straight games (3-0-0-1) and climbed into a tie with idle Flint for sixth place in the IHL standings by rolling past the Muskegon Lumberjacks 6-1.

The Mallards ripped off five goals in the first 23 minutes and 8 seconds of the game to chase Muskegon starting goaltender Matt Lundin and never looked back. Levesque kick-started the onslaught by rifling home the opening goal from the high slot just 69 seconds into the contest. Levesque struck again to double the lead by sweeping a power play goal in from the slot at 15:45 of the first. Just under two and half minutes later, Lipsett made it 3-0 by finishing off a 2-on-1 rush.

The Mallards took the three-goal advantage into the second period and soon built on it as Ryan Fultz provided the second Quad City power play goal from close range at 2:30 of the second. 38 seconds later Lipsett lifted goal number five in from the doorstep and the Lumberjacks replaced Lundin with Sebastien Centomo.

Mallards netminder Jerad Kauffman, who finished a strong night with 34 saves, stopped 21 shots in the second period alone as play opened up after the Flock had built what proved to be an insurmountable lead. * *

Centomo was beaten for the first time when Obi Aduba made it 6-0 with a drive from the slot at 9:09 of the third period. Just 39 seconds later J.T. Dahlinger deflect the lone Muskegon goal home from the side of the net, but by then the outcome had long since been decided.

The Mallards return to action on home ice Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Bloomington PrairieThunder. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards water bottles.
