
Mallards Re-Sign Captain McMillan

MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have re-signed defenseman Darren McMillan.
McMillan, 33, has served as Mallards captain each of the last three seasons. Last year saw the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, native score six times and total 17 points in 64 games. McMillan has played in 196 of the Mallards' 198 regular season games over the last three campaigns.
"We're very happy to have our captain back," said Mallards head coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "Darren is someone we depend on a lot not only on the ice but also in the community, so re-signing a quality person like him is a huge step in the right direction in preparing for next season."
The 6' 0", 209-pound McMillan's first full season in the Quad Cities was 2010-11, a campaign that saw the blue liner score four goals, notch 21 points and represent the Mallards in the 2011 CHL All-Star Game. The following season, McMillan scored three times and collected 34 points while finishing tied for fourth in the CHL in plus/minus rating (+24).
Over his eight-year professional career, McMillan has scored 32 goals and collected 174 points In 476 games. McMillan first played for the Mallards early in the 2009-10 season when he picked up three assists while skating in a dozen games before heading to Germany to spend the remainder of that campaign with Klostersee EHC. That stint in the Oberliga was McMillan's second- he also suited up for Klostersee in 2007-08.
2008-09 saw McMillan skate in 73 games and record one goal and ten points while helping the Ontario (California) Reign to the ECHL's Pacific Division title. He began his professional career with the CHL's Wichita Thunder, for whom played in both 2005-06 and 2006-07.
Before stepping into the pro ranks, McMillan played for St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia for four seasons. He won the Atlantic University Sport conference title with StFX in 2003-04. In the junior ranks, he suited up for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League for three seasons from 1998-2001. McMillan and the Otters won back-to-back OHL Midwest Division championships in 1999-2000 and 2000-01 and also finished the regular season first overall in the OHL in 2000-01.
