Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - Boston Pizza Restaurants has assumed ownership of the Quad City Mallards of the Central Hockey League, the Mallards announced at a press conference today.
Jordan Melville, president of the T & M Group of Companies, the owner of Boston Pizza Restaurants, will serve as a director of QCM Holdings- the Mallards' ownership group- and as a member of the CHL executive committee. Rick Kozuback will also act as a director of QCM Holdings.
"We're very excited to be part of a great hockey market like the Quad Cities," said Melville. "After assessing the strength of the market and observing the team's performance since last October, we feel strongly that the Mallards are an entity we want to own and operate in the Quad Cities for the foreseeable future. We have a strong belief in the Mallards' fan base and are big hockey fans ourselves, so we're looking forward to putting an exciting team on the ice for our fans to get behind in 2013-14."
The coming season will be the Mallards' seventeenth campaign in the Quad Cities and the team's fourth in the CHL.
"We're excited to be able to now build on what we accomplished in the second half of last season both on and off the ice with new ownership," said Mallards president Bob McNamara. "The arrival of this ownership group provides stability going forward and enhances our ability to continue adding to the proud history of this franchise."
In preparation for next season, it was also announced today that the Mallards have re-signed team captain Darren McMillan.
"We're very happy to have our captain back," said Mallards head coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "Darren is someone we depend on a lot not only on the ice but also in the community, so re-signing a quality person like him is a huge step in the right direction in preparing for next season."
Next season will be McMillan's fourth as the Mallards' captain. The durable 33-year old defenseman has played in 196 of the Mallards' 198 regular season games over the last three years. McMillan is approaching his tenth professional season after scoring six times and totaling 17 points in 64 games with the Mallards in 2012-13.
