Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, Ill. - Chris Bogas scored a pair of goals- including what would prove to be the game winner- as the Flint Generals held off the comeback the bid of the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, to defeat the Mallards 6-4 Saturday night. The loss halted the Mallards' eight game regulation unbeaten streak.

The Generals, who led most of the evening, entered the third period up 3-2 and would soon extend the margin to a game high three goals. Matt Moffat was credited with the fourth Flint goal when Tony Tuzzolino's centering pass was deflected in at 3:51 of the third. Bogas buried his second goal of the game from the high slot to make it 5-2 at 9:06 of the third.

Bogas's second loomed large as the Mallards battled back with back-to-back third period goals of their own. At 13:47 Brandon Marino reduced the deficit to two by scoring from the doorstep. Just under three minutes later Justin White brought Quad City back within one by firing the puck in off the cross bar. However, the Mallards' hopes for a dramatic late equalizer were quashed when John Mori's empty net goal made it 6-4 with just 33 seconds left.

The Generals got the early jump on the Mallards by grabbing the game's first two goals as Jake Pence tipped in a power play goal at 10:46 of the first period and Nathan Ward scored from close range at the 16:42 mark of the first. The Mallards battled back to get on the scoreboard for the first time when Matt Cook shoveled the puck in out of goalmouth traffic with just 41 seconds left in the period.

At 14:08 of the second period Flint took a two goal lead for the second time with its second power play goal in as many opportunities. Bogas's shot slipped home between the pads of Mallards goaltender Kyle Jones to stretch the gap to 3-1. The Mallards pulled back within one with a power play goal of their own when Patrick Levesque's blast found the back of the net just over two and a half minutes later. Quad City, however, would, never quite be able to produce a tying goal.

The Mallards begin a stretch of four straight road games tomorrow afternoon against the Komets in Fort Wayne and will next to the ice at home on Wednesday, January 27 against Flint at 7:05 p.m. Fans attending the January 27 game will be able to enjoy $2 12-ounce drafts available at i wireless Center concession stands throughout that contest.
