Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 18, 2012) - Obi Aduba, Mickey Lang and Mike Stinziani converted penalty shots while Quad City Mallard goaltender John Murray stonewalled the Rapid City Rush as the host Mallards outlasted Rapid City 3-2 in a shootout Sunday.
After making 23 saves in regulation and overtime, Murray stopped all three Rush penalty shots he faced while Aduba buried the first Quad City shootout chance, Lang doubled the lead in the third round and Stinziani clinched the win by snapping the puck home in round four.
Overtime and the shootout proved necessary after the Rush's Damian Surma raced in through the right wing circle to erase a 2-1 Mallard lead with just over six minutes left in regulation. Mike Hellyer had given the Mallards that lead by rifling the puck in under the crossbar from the left wing circle at 7:03 of the third period.
It was the Mallards who battled from behind earlier in the evening when Bob Preece tied the game at one while toppling in the slot at 15:18 of the second period. The Rush had grabbed the game's opening goal while shorthanded when Jared Brown finished off a 2-on-1 give-and-go with Scott Wray at 10:17 of the first period.
The Mallards return to action Wednesday night on the road against the Fort Worth Brahmas. The Mallards next play at home Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers. Fans can purchase four lower bowl seats for that game for just $40- a savings of better than $30 off the regular walk-up ticket price. In addition, hot dogs will be available for just $1 on Saturday evening.
Tickets for Saturday night's game- as well as seats for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- can be purchased in person at the i wireless Center ticket office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
