Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (April 18, 2013) - The Quad City Mallards' Darren McMillan and Patrik Levesque will have their heads shaved Saturday to help raise funds for the fight against childhood cancer as part of the annual Quad Cities St. Baldrick's head-shaving event, the Mallards announced today.
The St. Baldrick's event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Golden Leaf Convention Center, located at 2902 E. Kimberly Road in Davenport. McMillan and Levesque are scheduled to have their heads shaved at approximately 2:00 p.m. McMillan and Levesque join teammate Jason Dixon, who had his locks shorn for a St. Baldrick's fundraiser at the Mallards' March 22 game, in shaving their heads.
"We want to thank everyone who has supported the St. Baldrick's Foundation by donating or volunteering and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Mallards to raise funds for childhood cancer research," said St. Baldrick's volunteer (and wife of Darren) Erica McMillan.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to cures for childhood cancers and giving survivors long and healthy lives. Since its inception in 2000, St. Baldrick's has raised more than $151,000,000 for childhood cancer research. At the foundation's signature head-shaving events, volunteers are shaved bald to stand in solidarity with children with cancer and raise funds for life-saving research. More information on the St. Baldrick's Foundation can be found at stbaldricks.org.
McMillan has been the Mallards' captain for the last three years. This season saw the 32-year old Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, native play his two hundredth game for the team. Levesque, a 29-year old product of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, returned to the Quad Cities this season after first skating for the Mallards in 2009-10 and at the start of the 2010-11 campaign.
Mallards 2013-14 season tickets are now on sale. The Mallards offer ticket packages to meet any budget and season ticket holders also receive a host of additional benefits, including a unique season ticket holder Mallards jersey. More season ticket information is available by calling the Mallards at 309-277-1364.
