Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (October 25, 2012) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have signed defensemen Ed Campbell and forward Marcello Ranallo. Per club policy, no contract terms were announced
The vastly experienced Campbell has played 844 career games during which he has piled up 33 goals, 194 points and 1823 penalty minutes. The 38-year old joins the Mallards after having skated in the Denver Cutthroats' training camp in the preseason.
"Eddie has obviously got a ton of experience but he also still has great enthusiasm for the game," said Mallards coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "He's a guy who can not only get the job done on the ice but is also someone who our younger players- especially our young defensemen- can learn a lot from."
Campbell has spent the bulk of his career in the American Hockey League, where he has donned the colors of the Binghamton Rangers, Hartford Wolfpack, Worcester IceCats, Grand Rapids Griffins, Providence Bruins, Hersey Bears, Milwaukee Admirals, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and Cleveland Barons. The 6' 2", 210-pound Worcester, Massacusetts, native last took the ice in 2008-09 when he played in Italy for Pontebba and for the Fayetteville FireAntz and Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
Ranallo, a 25-year old rookie, scored four goals and recorded 19 points in 39 games for the University of Connecticut last season. The Burnaby, British Columbia, native missed just two games over four years at UConn and set a school record for most career games played (148) as a Husky. The 5' 11", 185-pound Ranallo registered a total of 19 goals and 66 points over the course of his collegiate career.
"Marcello is a hard working young player who plays a good two way game," said Ruskowski. "He's coming off a very solid college career where he was a playmaker and a guy who could contribute on the power play."
The Mallards will open their third CHL season- and their first under two-time league-title winning coach Ruskowski- tomorrow night against the Oilers in Tulsa. On Saturday night, the Mallards will return to the Quad Cities to play their home opener against the Oilers at 7:05 p.m. at the i wireless Center. The Mallards will again be in action on home ice when they welcome the Wichita Thunder Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m.
