Blaze Host Thunder in Pair of Weekend Games

October 25, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release

The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, enjoy home ice for the second straight weekend as they host the Wichita Thunder on Friday and Saturday.

The meetings are the first-ever between the clubs as the Thunder was the only Central Hockey League team the Blaze did not face in last year's inaugural season.  Wichita finished last season in the Ray Miron President's Cup finals, losing the championship series in five games to the Fort Wayne Komets.

The Blaze and Thunder are coming off similar opening weekends as each split a pair of games at home.  The Blaze dropped the opener to the Rapid City Rush 5-4 on Friday before rebounding the next night for a 5-2 victory over the Rush.  The Thunder fell to the Tulsa Oilers 4-3 in the opener before trouncing the guests 8-2 in Saturday's rematch.

Jon Booras leads the Blaze in scoring with a goal and four assists for five points, while Nicklas Lindberg and Travis Granbois each scored two goals in the first two games to share the team lead.  Wichita's Matt Summers registered two goals and four assists to join three others in the CHL scoring lead with six points after the opening weekend.  Teammate RG Flath was one of five league skaters to record five points in the opening weekend, and his three goals ties him for second in the league with Missouri's Jeff Pierce.

Face-off both nights is at 7:05.  The games can be heard inside U.S. Cellular Coliseum on 93.7 FM and online at WJBC.com and CHL-TV, with links on the home page of www.bloomingtonblaze.com.  For information on tickets and discount packages, call 309-434-2980 or visit the Blaze web site or Facebook and Twitter (BLMBlaze).

Junior Blaze schedule change:  The Junior Blaze home game originally scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. has been postponed with no makeup date yet scheduled.  The Junior Blaze travel to Rhinelander, Wis. for games on Saturday and Sunday before returning home next weekend for contests against the Hartland Hounds on Friday at 3 p.m. before the Blaze game and Sunday at 11 a.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
