Quad City Mallards News Release

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Chris Izmirlian and Matt Pohlkamp provided a goal and an assist apiece as the Quad City Mallards (23-41-5) ripped off five straight goals before holding off the host Rapid City Rush's (22-41-6) comeback bid to claim a 5-4 victory Saturday night.

The Mallards responded with a five-goal onslaught after Andrew Radjenovic- who would pile up two goals and two assists- gave the Rush a 1-0 lead by burying a rebound at 3:40 of the first period. The Mallards were on the power play when Pohlkamp tied the score at one with a wrist shot from the left wing circle at 5:34 of the first. Rookie Tommy Muratore gave the Mallards a 2-1 lead by finishing off a give-and-go with Connor Reilly with his first career goal at 12:54.

Two Mallard goals in one minute, 28 seconds early in the second period chased Rapid City goaltender Christian Frey from the game. Ryan McGrath blasted the third Mallard goal from the left wing circle just 27 seconds into the second. After Ryan McGrath scored from the slot to make it 4-1 at 1:55, Danny Battochio, who had come out of retirement to sign a contract with the Rush Friday, replaced Frey. Izmirlian scored the fifth Mallard goal from point-blank range at 10:48 of the middle frame.

Izmirlian's goal stood up as the difference after the Rush battled back with three goals in three minutes, 50 seconds in the third period. Willem Nong-Lambert's tip-in reduced the gap to 5-2 at 3:01 of the third. The Mallard advantage shrank to 5-3 when Daniel Leavens converted Radjenovic's centering feed at 5:17. Radjenovic pounced on a rebound to bring Rapid City within one at 6:51 but goaltender Eric Hartzell- who made 31 saves- and the Mallards protected that narrow lead the rest of the way.

Also Saturday, defenseman Dmitry Osipov was recalled from loan to the Mallards by the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves.

The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Rush. All seats for Wednesday night's game are available for just $5.

Tickets for Wednesday night's game- and all remaining Mallards regular season home games- are also now on sale at the TaxSlayer Center box office, Ticketmaster toll free charge-by-phone (1-800-745-3000) and ticketmaster.com.
