Mallards Fall to Wichita 5-1

MOLINE, Ill. (January 2, 2013) - Neil Trimm scored two goals and Kevin Regan made 31 saves as the Wichita Thunder defeated the host Quad City Mallards 5-1 Wednesday night.

Already leading 1-0 after one period, the Thunder took control by scoring twice 24 seconds late in the second period. Greger Hanson jammed in the second Wichita goal at 16:29 of the second. At 16:53, the Thunder lead stretched to 3-0 when Trimm wristed the puck home from the right wing circle.

Trimm widened the margin to 4-0 by burying the puck from the slot at 2:21 of the third period. Mickey Lang got the Mallards on the scoreboard with a blast from the left wing circle at 9:22 of the third, but Dustin Donaghy's drive from the right wing circle would cap off the Thunder victory at 15:47 of the final frame.

Aaron Boogaard had opened the scoring from the high slot with the first of what proved to be four straight Wichita goals at 9:43 of the first period.

The Mallards return to action at home Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Denver Cutthroats. Friday night will also see former Mallard great Glenn Stewart's number 18 retired before the Mallards' match-up with Denver. Stewart, who played four seasons for the Mallards from 1996 to 2000 and won a pair of titles in 1997 and 1998, is the franchise's all-time career goal scoring leader. Also on Friday night, the Mallards will team with WLLR Number One Country to celebrate Country Music Night. As part of the festivities, fans attending Friday's game will have the chance to win tickets to Rascal Flatts in concert January 11 at the i wireless Center and the World's Toughest Rodeo the weekend of January 25.
