Mallards Dramatically Down Dayton 3-2

January 30, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) - Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, IL - Patrick Levesque's second goal of the third period broke a 2-2 tie with just 24.6 seconds remaining and the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, closed out the first half of their home schedule by defeating the Dayton Gems 3-2 in front of a crowd of 6,217 Saturday night.

Levesque pounced on the rebound and backhanded in the game winner after Dayton goaltender Ryan Mior could only knock Mike Zbriger's initial long range drive down into the slot. Levesque scored what was his second tie breaker of the night just 55 seconds after the Gems, having pulled Mior, evened the score at two on A.J. MacLean's tip-in.

Levesque had given the Mallards 2-1 advantage- Quad City's first lead of the night- when he drove home another rebound from the slot just 42 seconds into the third.

The third period fireworks followed a scoreless second period. In the first it was Dayton's Jonathan Ornelas who opened the scoring by sweeping the puck in while toppling in the goalmouth 6:54 into the game. The Mallards responded at 16:08 with Jacques Perreault's blue line blast.

The Mallards would go on to earn the win in front of a raucous crowd in what was the nineteenth of Quad City's 38 regular season home games.
