Major League Soccer Commissioner Fines FC Dallas Defender Adrian Serioux
Published on May 30, 2008 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK (Friday, May 30, 2008) - Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber today fined FC Dallas defender Adrian Serioux $1,000 in addition to the automatic $250 fine he received for a red card foul in the 75th minute of a game against the Los Angeles Galaxy on May 19. The Commissioner imposed the fine in the context of quotes attributed to Serioux in England's Sun newspaper in February 2007 and comments made by the player immediately following the challenge, as well as the nature of the challenge itself.
"MLS will not tolerate words or actions, whether on or away from the field, that improperly target any player for physical aggression," Garber said. "Any further transgressions of this kind will be dealt with more harshly."
As one of the League's official Charities of Choice, the US Soccer Foundation is the recipient of all player fines at the end of each season. Those fines are added to the Foundation's Annual Grants Pool from which the Board of Directors awards grants to soccer clubs and organizations that serve economically disadvantaged children in urban areas.
