Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release


Lewiston comes home this week after beginning a disappointing 3 game losing streak against Moncton, Saint John, and Acadie-Bathurst. The MAINEiacs will play their final game of the season against the Telus Division leading Gatineau Olympiques, and will wrap the week up with back-to-back games versus Cape Breton.

The MAINEiacs will have a tough test ahead of them in the Gatineau Olympiqeus when they come to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on January 3. Gatineau is the leading team in the QMJHL with 26 wins and 56 points. Last time the two teams faced off, Gatineau gave Lewiston a 4 -1 pounding on November 16. MAINEiacs forward Lucas Labelle has played 2 games against Gatineau and has the only MAINEiacs goal against the Olympiques this season. For Gatineau it was a team effort in the win over Lewiston with Jean-Philip Chabot, Maxime Mallette, Darryl Smith, and Travis Stacey all scoring against Lewiston. The MAINEiacs will have their work cut out for them on Thursday night.

On January 5 and 6 the MAINEiacs will play 2 games against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. The MAINEiacs last faced the Eagles back on October 12 where Lewiston won 5 - 4. Cape Breton and Lewiston are both currently suffering from three game losing streaks. Stefan Chaput, Stefano Giliati, Denis Reul, and Marc Bourgeois all scored goals last time against Cape Breton. Peter Delmas stopped 29 of 33 shots last game against Cape Breton. Delmas is most likely to be in goal for the MAINEiacs for all of this weeks games.

MAINEiacs goaltender Jonathan Bernier turned in a phenomenal performance for Team Canada in the opening game of the World Juniors last week stopping 41 shots in a shut out win against the Czech Republic on December 26. Team Canada next plays Denmark on December 31.

Upcoming Promotions

January 3 is Student / Teacher night! Students and Teachers who show proper ID at the Box Office will receive $8 discount tickets!

January 5 & 6 are Hannaford Student Achievement nights. Those students in the greater Lewiston / Auburn area who were selected by their teachers for the award will be honored at this game.
