Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - For the second time in as many games, the Lewiston MAINEiacs faced a fellow team from the BMO CHL Top 10 Rankings. Despite a solid effort, the MAINEiacs fell short on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 5-3 decision to the Montreal Junior in front of 1,711 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The MAINEiacs got on the board first at the 4:19 mark of the opening stanza. Sam Carrier sent a long pass ahead to Etienne Brodeur, who carried the puck in to the right circle. With Cameron Critchlow on his left, Brodeur elected to shoot, splitting the pads of Jean-Francois Berube. The goal was Brodeur's league-leading 25th of the season, as well as his league-leading fifth shorthanded marker of the season.

The lead stayed in tact until the second period, when the Junior used a hard-working play to produce the equalizer. Jonathan Narbonne stepped in to block Olivier Dame-Malka's slap shot, deflecting the puck to Janos Hari, who sprung Jean-Christophe Laflamme on a breakaway. Laflamme picked the corner over Nicholas Champion's glove. Eight minutes later, Louis-Marc Aubry put Montreal in front, as his second shot found the twine off of a broken play.

With 45 seconds left in the period, Lewiston tied the score. Matt Bissonnette sent the puck forward to Etienne Brodeur, who slipped a pass through the slot to Cameron Critchlow. The MAINEiacs' captain kept his shot low, converting on the power play for a 2-2 deadlock after two.

Early in the third period, Montreal went ahead after a big save by their goaltender. Pierre-Olivier Morin was robbed by Berube on a 2-on-1 rush, which ultimately led to a 2-on-1 the other way. Jeremy Gouchie led Trevor Parkes in on goal, and Parkes faked to his forehand, before roofing a backhander for the go-ahead goal. Shortly after the midway mark of the period, the Junior added to their lead, as David Rose picked up a loose puck in the slot, and hammered it into the cage. Etienne Brodeur and Trevor Parkes exchanged goals in the final minute, giving the game a 5-3 final in favor of the visitors.

Jean-Francois Berube earned the win for the Junior, stopping 31 of the 34 shots he faced. Nicholas Champion suffered the loss for the MAINEiacs, making 25 saves on 29 shots.

The MAINEiacs will continue their four-game homestand on Tuesday night at 7:00, when the Baie-Comeau Drakkar visit the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
