Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs headed out on the road this weekend, looking for a big sum of points with three games in three nights. Lewiston ended up picking up five, including an emotional two on Saturday night. After going ahead 3-0, the MAINEiacs were eventually tied at three by the PEI Rocket. However, in overtime, Zach Shannon's goal with nine seconds remaining was the difference, as Lewiston picked up the 4-3 win in front of 2,127 fans at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.

Despite playing in their three games in as many nights, the MAINEiacs came flying out of the gates in the first period. The scoring started at the 8:03 mark, when Sam Henley skated down the left side of the ice and put a shot on goal. Evan Mosher made the save, but the rebound deflected out to Antoine Houde-Caron, who potted the tally. A little more than four minutes later, Lewiston lit the lamp again, as Etienne Brodeur took a feed from Kirill Kabanov, before sliding a shot through Mosher's legs. 3:08 after that, it was the visitors tallying again, as Alex Zafiris tipped home Olivier Dame-Malka's shot from the left point.

In the second period, the Rocket answered with a pair of goals, bringing the margin to one. Olivier Croteau got the first marker, picking up a rebound on the left side of the crease, and backhanding a shot into the top part of the goal. With 4:49 remaining, PEI got the second goal, as Andrej Nestrasil caught Andrey Makarov off guard from the right circle.

With under two minutes remaining in regulation, PEI knotted the score, capitalizing on a power play. Travis McIsaac had his original shot blocked in front, but Ben Duffy was there on the left side lifting the puck in over a sprawled out Makarov for the equalizer.

For the second night in a row, the game needed overtime, and very nearly a shootout. However, the MAINEiacs had other ideas with nine ticks left on the clock. Zach Shannon picked up the puck at the right point, walked into the slot, and ripped in a wrist shot, beating Mosher blocker side, and giving Lewiston a 4-3 victory.

Andrey Makarov earned his tenth win of the season between the pipes for the MAINEiacs, making 29 saves on 32 shots. Evan Mosher suffered the overtime loss for the Rocket, making 35 saves on 39 shots.

The MAINEiacs will now return home to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for a pair of home games. The first one takes place on Friday night at 7:30, when Lewiston plays host to the Gatineau Olympiques.
