MAINEiacs season comes to an end at the hands of Halifax
April 3, 2006 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs third season officially came to a close tonight as they lost 6-5 to the Halifax Mooseheads closing out this first round series 4 games to 2.
It was hard to imagine that this series would end up with a game where 11 goals were scored in what has been a very defensive minded series. Lewiston opened the scoring in the first period as Max Mathieu scored his second of the playoffs. The lead would be short lived as Halifax replied with a Daniel Smith tally to equal the score going into the first intermission.
The Mooseheads looked like they took control of the game with goals by MacDonald and Brine to take a 3-1 lead. But the MAINEiacs were resilient and came back to tie it up as Cliche notched one followed by Castonguay.
The MAINEiacs regained the lead in the third as Castonguay scored his second of the game, but then the Mooseheads replied with a pair, the first by Carnegie and the second coming from MacMillan. With just under 8 minutes, Mathieu Aubin re-energized the crowd tying the game at 12:29 of the third. The final nail in the coffin came with just over 3 minutes remaining as Frederik Cabana would tally the game winner.
As quick as this season has come to a close, the 2006-2007 season has officially begun. Season tickets are now on sale!
