Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - On the first day of a new month, it was only fitting that Friday night's game between the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies featured an array of firsts. For starters, the MAINEiacs' 8-0 victory was their first road win of the 2010-11 season. Midway through the first period, Dillon Fournier netted his first career goal in the QMJHL. And finally, when the buzzer sounded, Andrey Makarov recorded his first career win, while also securing his first career shutout.

The first goal of the contest came just after the first minute expired. Stefan Fournier completed a 3-on-1 rush with Michael Chaput, beating Mickael Audette for a 1-0 Lewiston lead. A little less than four minutes later, the MAINEiacs added to their lead, when Etienne Brodeur snagged the puck off of the boards, and buried his league-leading third shorthanded tally of the season. The visitors weren't done yet, as Dillon Fournier connected on a goal from Sam Henley and Antoine Houde-Caron just before the midway mark of the period. Fournier's first career goal spelled the end of the night for Rouyn-Noranda goaltender Mickael Audette, who was pulled after allowing the three goals.

Jeffrey Noonan kept the MAINEiacs off of the scoreboard for the remainder of the first, but the second period was a different story. Pierre-Olivier Morin needed just 25 seconds to beat Noonan for his first goal of the 2010-11 campaign, with Sam Henley drawing the lone assist. At the 12:43 mark of the middle frame, Etienne Brodeur lit the lamp for his second tally of the evening, and Francis Beauvillier followed that up 1:16 later, scoring from Cole Hawes and Alex Zafiris.

Lewiston wasn't about to let up in the third period, as Cameron Critchlow and Antoine Houde-Caron put the exclamation points on an 8-0 win for the MAINEiacs.

Following the game, MAINEiacs' head coach Jean-Francois Houle said, "We're really proud of our players. It was a real team effort tonight."

The 8-0 victory also meant the first win and shutout for Lewiston netminder Andrey Makarov. The Russian native denied all 22 shots he faced, picking up the MAINEiacs' first shutout since Adrien Lemay's 43-save blanking of Baie-Comeau on February 11, 2009. Mickael Audette suffered the loss for the Huskies, allowing three goals on eight shots, before giving way to Jeffrey Noonan, who was beaten five times on 29 shots.

After picking up three out of four possible points against Rouyn-Noranda, the MAINEiacs now move on to Val-d'Or, where they will play a pair of games against the Foreurs. Saturday night's tilt is at 7:00, followed by a 4:00 face-off on Sunday. Lewiston's next home game takes place on October 8th, when the Victoriaville Tigres come to town for a weekend series.
