MAINEiacs prepare for two game home opening weekend

Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs arrived home at the Colisée in the early hours this morning from a long 10-day roadtrip that spanned 4 Canadian provinces. The MAINEiacs left on Thursday, September 22nd to drive to Montreal where they jumped aboard a flight that would take them to St. John's, Newfoundland. The MAINEiacs faced off against the Fog Devils 3 times in 5 nights, dropping the first game (St. John's inaugural season home opener) by means of shoot-out, and winning the next 2 by scores of 3-1 and 9-2.

The MAINEiacs departed the most easterly city of North America on Wednesday, September 28 where they flew into the city of Moncton. The team immediately departed for Saint John, New Brunswick where they squared off against the Sea Dogs on Friday night, losing their only game in regulation on this 6-game trip. Saturday night, the MAINEiacs took on the undefeated Moncton Wildcats at the Moncton Coliseum and walked away with 2 points thanks in large part to a big performance from 17-year goalie Jonathan Bernier. Sunday afternoon, the MAINEiacs were in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island where they beat the Rocket by a margin of 6-3.

Overall, the MAINEiacs recorded 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 shoot-out loss for 9 of 12 possible points.

In other news, the QMJHL announced its weekly honors for players of the week, naming Lewiston MAINEiacs captain, Brandon Roach as the defensive player of the week. Angelo Esposito, a rookie with the Quebec Remparts claimed the offensive honors.

The Lewiston MAINEiacs open the 2005-2006 at home this weekend when they will face the Moncton Wildcats on Friday, October 7th (7:00 pm) and the Shawinigan Cataractes on Sunday, October 9th (4:00 pm). Sunday's game will be the only time that forward MAINEiacs' player Alex Bourret will visit the Colisée this season.
