Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME - Lewiston's overtime record up to this point was nothing to be proud of with 3 losses and 6 shoot-out loses thus far in the season, but that's all forgotten after tonight's thriller against the Moncton Wildcats. In what might be one of the best overall games in MAINEiacs franchise history, tonight's contest showcased a combination of speed, skill and stellar goaltending at both end of the rink.

Lewiston found themselves down 2-0 midway through the opening frame as Moncton's Goulet and Welton opening the scoring, both on the mad advantage. Marc-Andre Cliche brought the game to within one with the help of Aubin and Roach on the powerplay just a few minutes later.

In the second, Eric Castonguay fired a lazer in the top corner midway through the period (assists to Aubin and Roach), again on the power play. For the rest of the period, the play was back and forth and both goalies made save after save to keep the game tied at 2.

In the dying minutes of the third period, the momentum shifted in Moncton's favor as Chad Denny took a trip to the penalty box with just over 2 minutes remaining in regulation. Jonathan Bernier was up to task of weathering the Wildcats power play pressure and then with just 5 seconds remaining, Aubin and Cliche broke out on a 2 on 1 with Cliche getting a shot away just missing glove side. So the third period would remain scoreless and this game would go to overtime.

5 minutes of 4 on 4 play would seem Lewiston carry most of the play despite not being able to notch the winner. In the shoot-out, Bernier was stellar, stopping all 4 Wilcats (Dupuis, Goulet, Marchand and Karsums). The first 3 MAINEiacs shooters, Castonguay, Cliche and Aubin would be bettered by Josh Tordjman. Then Jonathan Paiement lined up as the MAINEiacs fourth shooter and his patented move did the trick as he put the puck past Tordjman to notch the win.
