Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME - Despite fending off a Cape Breton 4-on-3 overtime powerplay, the MAINEiacs came up short in the shoot-out loosing to Cape Breton 4-3. Danick Paquette opened the scoring in the first period, his 3rd in the past 2 games, on the powerplay. I was 1 of only 3 man-advantage opportunities Lewiston would have during the game. Cape Breton responded with a power play marker of their own as Dean Ouellet converted on 1 of their 8 man-advantage opportunities Cape Breton was awarded.
In the second, Dominic Savoie scored his second of the season from Cusack and Beaton but Cape Breton responded with a short-handed marker as Mathieu Brodeur scored his first of the season on a point-shot that fooled Peter Delmas. Lewiston restored the lead in the 3rd period as captain Daneau found twine for the 8th time this season with the help of Bundil and Lacasse.
Like last night, the Screaming Eagles would not go away quietly, as Jordan Clendenning scored his 22nd to even the score. Stefano Giliati was called for boarding in the opening minute of overtime, a call that was not well received by the 2,634 faithful at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée. The MAINEiacs held on throughout the 4-3 Cape Breton powerplay and the score would remain tied, forcing a shoot-out. Delmas stopped both Clendenning and Ouellet, but it was Haddad that found a way to put it in the net as the game winner as Lewiston's Paquette, Tutalo and Giliati all came up blank.
Lewiston is back on home ice Friday, January 18th to play host the Baie Comeau Drakkar in their only appearance in Maine this regular season.
