Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - It was a tale of two games on Tuesday morning, as the Lewiston MAINEiacs visited the Montreal Junior at Verdun Auditorium. The Junior jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period of play, only to see the MAINEiacs respond with three goals in the final two periods, cutting the deficit to one. Unfortunately, the comeback wasn't able to be finished, as Montreal ended the game with a 5-3 victory in front of 3,058 fans.

The first period didn't get off to the start that the MAINEiacs were looking for, as the Montreal Junior lit the lamp four times in the final ten minutes of the stanza. Trevor Parkes started the scoring, batting in the rebound of David Rose's original shot on the power play. Another power play tally found the net 48 seconds later, when Xavier Ouellet scored on a shot from the point off of a face-off win. With 3:25 remaining, a second face-off play led to a goal, as Matt Provost picked the top corner from the slot. Trevor Parkes completed the scoring in the first period with 1:32 left to go, curling toward the middle, before sliding a shot through Andrey Makarov's legs.

In the second period, Lewiston got on the board. Pierre-Olivier Morin twirled a shot in toward the slot from the point. The puck deflected off of a pair of bodies to Kirill Kabanov, who flicked the puck into the net with one hand on his stick.

The MAINEiacs continued to cut into the lead in the third period, ultimately pulling within a goal. Pierre-Olivier Morin brought his squad within a pair, ripping a low wrist shot past Jean-Francois Berube's right pad. Then, with 1:20 left to go, Etienne Brodeur banked a shot in off of Berube, giving him 42 goals on the season. Unfortunately, that is as close as Lewiston could get, as Nicolas Chouinard finished the Montreal win with an empty net goal, giving the contest a 5-3 final score.

Jean-Francois Berube earned the win for the Junior, making 31 saves on 34 shots. Andrey Makarov suffered the loss, allowing four goals on 19 shots in twenty minutes of work, before a perfect 13-for-13 effort by Nicholas Champion in relief.

The MAINEiacs will now return home to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, where they will begin a four-game homestand on Friday night at 7:00 against the Quebec Remparts.
